      As always Katie, just reading your list makes me happy remember the wonderful food of Rome even if I can’t be there.

      A related question… from foodies moving to Rome in July for a year-long sabbatical. Any recommendations for the best neighborhoods to live in with respect to gastronomic activities (markets, restaurants, etc.)?

    • Sarah May

      A list to print and put on the fridge!!

    • Amanda Ruggeri

      Thanks, Katie! Took you up on your Gatta Mangiona suggestion the other day and loved it. Have to say I haven’t been bowled over by Da Remo, though… I’ve had some dry pizzas there! Am still on the hunt for the perfect thin-crust Roman pizza, in Rome. Not sure it even exists anymore!

      I can’t wait to return to Rome and eat my way through the city-thank you for all the great info you impart to us!

    • BuzzInRome

      Totally agree with
      -Regional. Colline Emiliane
      and
      -Gelato. Gelateria via dei Gracchi
      most of the others, I don’t even know
      Rome is so big…

      For Jenny. I don’t think there is an an ideal neighbourhood in Rome for foodies. It might sound like a paradox but downtown is probably the area with the highest concentration of terrible restaurants, as it is full of tourist-traps. Furthermore, with the only exception of the small and pricey Campo de’Fiori’s market, downtown Rome is also the area with fewer everyday markets. Conclusion: go for a nice residential area!

      @shayma i like passi just fine, but i prefer the others. if i put every place i like this list would be very long and boring;)

      @Rosemary Grazie!!!

      @Jenny I agree with @BuzzinRome on the residential area bit. My dream neighborhood is actually Aventino, where you are in striking distance of the weekend Farmers Markets beside the Circus Maximus and in Testaccio, you are next to Testaccio, close to Porta Metronia/San Giovanni districts, a stone’s throw from Trastevere, and not far from Monteverde and its market, food shops and restaurants with public transport.

      @Sarah May fridge space? honored!

      @Amanda too bad about Da Remo! have you checked out Nuovo Mondo? Don’t give up hope!

      @janie prego! come back soon!

      @BuzzinRome any other places you would add to the list?

    • Amanda Ruggeri

      Yep, Nuovo Mondo’s my favorite — I’m also a fan of Formula Uno and Li Rioni. But still… I’ll just have to keep “researching”!

      Thank you for posting this, my girlfriend and I went to Rome for about 72 hours this weekend and your suggestions were consistently great! Da Danilo really made for a great evening the first night since it was close to our hotel, and since we got a seat there even when other places started to close. Buon appetito!

    • Carl

      Thanks again for the recommendation on Tuna and we truly loved L’Angolo Divino not just for the wine/food but the ambiance (and good company of course) – simply wonderful and added a special touch to our first visit to Rome!

      Listen to this lady she knows what she is talking about, she gave me more good tips than any guide book I’ve ever read. Gelateria dei Gracchi, Cul de Sac, Roma Sparita (cacio e pepe) and Forno Campo de’ Fiori are all particularly good, Happy New Year!

      I am going to Rome for christmas and staying near the Spanish steps. Can you recommend any restaurants near there that aren’t touristy?

    • Katie

      i love Palatium, Tuna, and the gelateria il gelato in piazza monte d’oro. but overall the other options in the neighborhood aren’t really great. have you seen these suggestions? http://www.parlafood.com/my-rome/
