Thanks for this great list – many of which I don’t know. My favorite “Le Mani In Pasta” in Trastevere isn’t there though,
June 28th, 2010 at 12:46 amoh my god im an idiot. a pasta dish from le mani in pasta is the lead photo and i forgot to add the restaurant to the list. taverna dei fori imperiali is missing too. thanks for pointing it out!
June 28th, 2010 at 12:50 amGlad that Shawarma Station on Merulana made the list – I was introduced to the place by some Iraqi friends, and it became my very “healthy choice” for the grad school diet! I still go every time I’m back (and waiting for a train at Termini).
June 28th, 2010 at 3:32 amHave you ever tried Bacocco in Trastevere (on Mameli) in the winebar category? We like the place a lot – for wines as well as pesce crudo and most pastas. disclosure – are friends with Massimo the owner.
June 28th, 2010 at 10:33 amoh, how bout ai marmi, did it fall off the list?
June 28th, 2010 at 10:33 amWhat about L’Orso 80 ?
June 28th, 2010 at 1:29 pmgreat list- but i am glad my fave place is not on this list, as i dont want people (tourists) to know about it waaahahaha *evil laugh*.
June 28th, 2010 at 7:27 pmlurv Il Goccetto, my fave place in the whole world, perhaps. x shayma
@Jessica yeah shawarma station is the bomb.
@Hande never been to Bacocco. ill have to check it out. Ai Marmi is still good but had a disappointing pizza there recently and a very lame suppli. it’s been bumped.
@ecoturka ive never been!
@shayma haha i know which one youre talking about and i wont ruin it for ya;)
June 30th, 2010 at 9:59 pmGreat list, Katie… We ate at Zampagna for the second time just last night – our last night in Rome this year… and it’s in our neighborhood…
July 1st, 2010 at 1:22 amAND, let me add a call-out for Bacocco – and I have no connection to the owners… we featured it in our blog last year… great apperitivo (photo in the blog shows how great). Dianne
right on! have a safe trip back. a presto!
July 1st, 2010 at 9:35 amFantastic list! Now all I have to do is sort out which ones to hit for lunch and dinner for our visit.
Thank you!
July 1st, 2010 at 10:36 pmGreat list. I’m going to visit. Ciao!
July 2nd, 2010 at 6:26 pmCannot wait to eat here when in Rome this fall. I really value your opinion Katie. You have never given me a bad recommendation.
July 18th, 2010 at 4:37 amAny reason Cul de Sac fell off the list?
July 19th, 2010 at 7:19 amGreat list, and I love that you’ve included Le Mani in Pasta – you do know what you’re talking about!
August 10th, 2010 at 4:43 pmThat said, I am sorry but I have to disagree with you on Da Remo and La Gatta Mangiona. From the former I remember an average calzone with a totally unappealing (egg?) topping, and being sick afterwards. Might have been a coincidence or just a nasty bug, still, my stomach stubbornly refuses to be dragged there ever again.
La Gatta Mangiona is a mystery to me. It is said to be one of Rome’s best pizzerias, but frankly, I can’t see where its appeal lies. For my personal taste – I’m Italian – the pizza is not bad, but nothing special. The desserts I tried, however, were dreadful. They looked great and had absolutely no taste, and even I could have made a better apple tart – think Autogrill, if you want. I am sure I must be missing some critical detail here, because how can so many people “in the know” be wrong? Still, after several experiences, I steer clear of it.
@steve the service is overextended there. drives me nuts.
@paola oh bummer. i love da remo, though i will only go there very early or very late and only mon-thurs or i lose my mind with all those crowds. i don’t think i have ever made it to dessert at La Gatta Mangiona. i tend to fill myself up on fritti then stuff myself with pizza. no room for dessert:) as da remo and la gatta mangiona are not to your liking, where do you go for pizza?
