Avio, Lecce: Don’t Get What You Want, Get What You Need

Have you ever ordered something at a cafe and totally thought you knew what you were getting but then got something totally different and were incredibly happy to be served that something that you didn’t even know you wanted? That is exactly what happened to me at Avio in Lecce yesterday. I asked for an espressino freddo and just assumed I would get a shot of coffee on ice. I got so much more.
After ordering the wrong/right thing, I watched as the barista landed a dollup of whipped cream in a goblet, poured espresso into the glass, and topped it all off with cremino and a bit of caramel sauce. My friend Audrey was even luckier. Her espressino came with a spoonful of Nutella. All this deliciousness for €1.70 each. Suck it Starbucks.

Dude,
The Espressino Freddo is the Pugliese equivalent of a pimped out Wendy’s Frosty. There are so may amazing surprises at coffee shops in Lecce. You must try Quarta Caffe…fabulouse torrefazione.
Cheers KP

how did i not know about it? maybe if i hadnt spent every summer chugging latte di mandorla like an idiot i would have noticed. quarta caffe is the bomb but avio uses quarta. they make it in surbo (i think) so they supply most bars in town.
