Have you ever asked yourself: How do I make this vegetarian recipe carnivorous? One quick and easy way is to just add bacon. This strategy works on just about every dish. Fry up your bacon in butter or extra virgin olive oil (for all you health nuts) and add veggies. Even my mom has gotten into the act. At Christmas dinner, she served brussle sprouts and bacon and they were a huge success. And since bacon is salty, you don’t have to add salt to the food. That’s healthy, right?

January 10th, 2010 at 4:20 pmtry slicing the brussell sprouts really thin before cooking them in the bacon/drippings, then finish off with balsamic and parmesan cheese – TO DIE! Wash it down with a shot of bacon vodka (yes, it exists here in the US) and your evening is complete!

January 11th, 2010 at 2:50 pmekc–that recipe for Brussel sprouts has been a staple at my house for the past few years. I don’t remember where I first saw it, but it is truly delicious. I usually halve the sprouts and then toss them in the food processor for a couple of pulses, producing rough shreds of Brussel sprouts. I also toss it some chopped garlic when sauteing them in the bacon drippings.
January 11th, 2010 at 4:33 pmTom – great idea! Must easier than my slicing by hand! I have also topped it with toasted chopped almonds or walnuts when serving – adds a great crunch!
