There is a burger revolution afoot in Istanbul. Fast food restaurants and diners serving high quality beef burgers are cropping up all over the city. There’s Dükkan Burger (the fast food version of the Dükkan steakhouse chain), Burger Bar, and numnum. I visited the Maçka branch of the latter last night with my friend Susan and we were bowled over by the food: the onion strings, cheeseburgers, and fries lived up to, even surpassed, our expectations of an American burger experience. Now Mehmet will you please expand your numnum empire to Rome?

Is that burger small, or just far away?
March 24th, 2009 at 3:02 pmIt must be a weird angle or an optical illusion because that burger was huge. It had a 6 in diameter at least. So good. We need to talk more about burgers.
March 25th, 2009 at 1:40 amMehmet Gurs used to have a TV show. In one episode he decided to cook burgers for his friends. I still remember how those burgers looked so yummy and delicious. I think it was like 5-6 years ago.
March 28th, 2009 at 3:02 pmYeah the NumNum at Kanyon served huge burgers with a mountain of fries. A great variety of gourmet burgers including smokey bacon (a god send in Turkey) and all washed down with a beer. A bit pricey on the local money but worth it
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:40 pmIn addition to the restaurants mentioned, i’d like to add Gourmet Burger Kitchen which is at least as good as others.
February 22nd, 2010 at 5:51 pmReally??? The burgers at the GBKs in London are quite lame. I’ll try it on my next trip to Istanbul in April. Its in Kanyon, right?
