On Tuesday night I had one of the best pizza margheritas of my life. This is a weighty statement, as when I am in Rome, I eat at least three per week at the city’s best pizzerias. The pizza margherita at Da Remo in Testaccio has the classic Roman crust: paper thin and at the same time flimsy and crispy so it bends into a perfect crunchy cheese envelope for my enjoyment.

I agree, Remo makes the best. In Rome, that is.

Ciao Katie, we have to hook up for a serious meal sometime soon.

  • Joe

Ms. Parla, it definately is a weighty statement. Yet, I am curios to try this margarita pizza hopefully in the near future at De remo. Even though personally I prefer the New York style pizza over the Roman style.

    with kind regards,

Ohhh, thanks for the pizza recommendation. I will be in Rome this spring and I’m adding Da Remo to my list! About to check out your “pizzerias in rome” post too! Thanks! :-)

    @Elenora Volentieri!

@Joe Grimaldi’s in NYC is amazing, though the best pizza in america is in the city of your sister’s and my alma mater. did you ever go to sally’s, pepe’s or bar when you visited new haven?

@style and inspiration make sure ai marmi in trastevere and li rione in the celio are on the list, too!

    Katie-

I grew up in New Haven and love hearing about how everyone loves Pepe’s Pizza as well as Sally’s–my hometown pizza!

  • Katie

I miss everything about food in New Haven. Two words: Louis’ Lunch.

  • Joe

I am sitting on the bench outside of Louis’ lunch right now. Also, whatchu know about this place: http://www.tedsrestaurant.com/ ?

  • Katie

joe i dont know it. what is it. tell me everything. damn you! i never should have left new haven.

  • Joe

Ted’s makes steamed hamburgers. They are not actually good but you gotta love the concept. Also, pining for New Haven when you’ve lived for years in one of Europe’s most beautiful and interesting capitals is surely a sign of encroaching mental illness. Of course, leaving such a city to actually return to New Haven means that shit is full blown ;)

So excited! Thanks for the tip! I am also going to Rome at the end of April!

    Ohhhhhhhhhh- Louie’s Lunch………….ecstacy…

  • Tom

My god, now that looks like a proper pizza… I just wish you could get anything even anywhere near this good in London…

  • Katie

No, you won’t find anything this good in London, I’m afraid. But Franco Manca in Brixton does a pretty convincing Neapolitan style pie.

  • shayma

I can vouch for Katie’s statement- Da Remo is the ultimate pizza in the whole wide world. EPIC. I lived in Testaccio for three years and fell in love with it. I never send my friends who are visiting Rome there, bec for them, it’s a bit out of the way, so I send them to Monte Carlo, another fave. But there is no comparison. If you haven’t eaten at Da Remo, you have yet to live :)

  • Mamma Parla

I eat pizza on the first night of my visits to Roma – definitely looking forward to eating at Da Remo!

    Ciao Katie!

I am an American (incidentally named Katie!) living and loving in Rome as well and just stumbled across your blog last night and absolutely love it! The fantastic food (aka pizza haha) is just one of the many things I love about this city and I am very anxious to try out some of your recommendations here! If this isn’t too forward I would love to meet for a meal sometime to pick your gastronomically-inclined brain! :)
