Sarde in Saor

For me, four days in Venice signifies four portions (minimum) of sarde in saor. I am completely obsessed with these Venetian style sweet and sour sardines. They practically swim in marinated onions studded with pine nuts and raisons. There is nothing subtle about these flavors.

Four days in Venice is not enough, and only 4 portions of sarde in saor is scandalously too little. I can’t get enough of that vinegary oniony tang. Tell me you’ve been to Ca’ d’Oro (La Vedova) and had their meatballs. Another addictive drug.

Haven’t been (yet) and barely put a dent in my list of places to try. Alas 4 days are terribly inadequate for such a delicious city.

I have never had sardines served that way, it looks heavenly! Are they served that way all over Venice? I must have totally missed that when I was there!

Yes they are served like this all over Venice. You can’t miss them! Add them to your “to eat” list!
