In case you were wondering what I dream about, this is it. Grilled meatballs made from ground lamb or beef mixed with onions and spices. I prefer lamb, myself, but I’ll take them any way I can get them. And since arriving in Turkey 5 days ago, I have. Köfte are commonly served stuffed into bread with salad, or plated with grilled green peppers, sliced tomatoes, and onions sprinkled with sumac. Honestly, I don’t discriminate and like both preparations equally. They are not served with sauce which is a good thing. There is nothing to cover up the taste of the meat and herbs, just fresh veggies whose freshness contrast with the sizzling meat. Is it possible I am hungry again?

You’re making me hungry! Thank you for your beautiful blog-you are doing my dream job!
August 12th, 2009 at 2:53 amI love lamb meatballs! I had them for dinner a few nights ago prepared by my new friends from Afghanastan – they were served with potatoes and seasoned with garlic and red pepper (just enough to notice)- simple and tasty. I love the presentation of kofte with juicy tomatoes, peppers and onions. This is a recipe I must learn to make – take notes! Keep the beautiful photos coming…

August 13th, 2009 at 12:30 amI am loving your Turkish adventures now. We had a friend (who lives in Lebanon) make us some kofte with a yogurt sauce when he came to visit us in Seattle. I’m dying to try the real thing.
August 13th, 2009 at 10:35 pmSo glad you are enjoying them! I am having the best time enjoying old favorites like kofte and discovering lots of new things, too. Hope you get your friend to cook for you again soon. Afiyet olsun!
