Rear Window

Today I woke up with big plans: I was going to walk down to Beşiktaş, photograph some markets, hop on a ferry, cruise the Bosphorus, learn Turkish and lose 5 lbs. But then it started raining so I decided to stay in, eat snacks, and do some writing. I set up shop on the couch so whenever I needed a break I could look across the living room, through the large windows, over the rooftops of the neighboring buildings and across the Bosphorus to Asia. There is something about this view, the noises that drift up from the city below, and the way that the light plays off the buildings and water that make not having accomplishing anything today absolutely fine.

I’m homesick! Have you gone to the Saturday Besiktas Market yet? I can see the tents in the lower portion of the photo.

Yes! I took that photo on Saturday. It rained all morning (seems to be a theme this month!) and when the sky cleared up, I ran down to the market. The produce was gorgeous. I bought as much stuff as I thought I could carry up the 200 steps back to the house.
