Valentine’s Day in Rome

Weekends and holiday can be hectic nights out in Rome. Even at the finer restaurants, the elevated number of covers on the books doesn’t necessarily mean there will be additional help on the floor, orders can get mixed up, the kitchen gets pushed to the limit. I avoid dining out on nights like this. But that doesn’t mean I suggest staying in on Valentine’s Day in Rome. Just do something different. Pick up some bittersweet chocolate at one of Rome’s best chocolatiers like La Bottega del Cioccolato, Moriondo e Gariglio, or Said and head to your favorite wine bar for a bottle of Amarone. Treat yourself to the luscious flavors of rich chocolate and fine wine and avoid the hassle of a busy night out.

oh how i wish i had tried la bottega del cioccolato, i just saw the website and it looks divine. i have to say, i was not a fan of moriondo, i thought the price point was too high for what they were offering, but this is all so subjective. i wonder, katie, if you’ve been to my fave place for choccies- it’s near freni e frizioni, i think that street is called via politema (sp?) if you have your back towards freni, you turn left on via politema and walk 500 m, on your right is a no-name cioccolateria which sells chocolate with chilli pepper, called diavolo i think. i’d love an Amarone with that.
